Position Title: PROJECT ENGINEER

Basic Purpose:

 

The Project Engineer reports to the Project Manager with additional reporting to the Operations Manager.  Duties and responsibilities of the position include the following:  coordinates project activities with guidance from Project Manager; performs accounting activities; performs estimating functions; proposal writing, developing budgets, interacting with design and project team personnel and owners; scheduling; writing contracts and sub-contracts; and performs other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions:

I.                    Coordinates project activities with guidance from Project Manager.

·        Assists/conducts weekly project meetings and creates meeting agenda and produces meeting minutes for project Meetings.

·        Identifies and resolves potential problems regarding documents.

·        Prepares and updates overall project schedules.

·        Prepares job update reports for owners.

·        Takes progress photos as needed.

·        Tracks all material deliveries.

·        Expedites and reviews shop drawings.

·        Coordinates daily construction process with design team personnel which includes; meeting with architects and engineers, project superintendents, sub-contractors and owners.

·        Prepares and distributes addenda and plan revisions.

·        Assists Superintendent with layout, calculations, etc., as requested.

·        Prepares and updates RFI logs, and change order logs.

·        Performs timely completion of project close out activities.

·        Assists Superintendent with formulation of operational production goals and measurements.

·        Schedules project duration, assists in scheduling sub-contractors and suppliers with the Job Site Superintendent; may coordinate all work in smaller projects.

·        Reviews project scope, reviews pertinent letters and bids, writes sub-contracts and contracts with sub-contractors and suppliers following BCS guidelines.

·        Ensures quality control by visiting job sites and interfacing with Job Site Superintendent; review sites to ensure that proper construction methods and materials are utilized; responsible for submittals and completion of end of project punch lists.

 

II.                 Performs accounting activities.

·        Drafts purchase orders, subcontracts, and change orders for review by Project Manager/ Operations Manager.

·        Reviews and approves invoices for accuracy before distributing to management for approval.

·        Ensures that project estimates are properly costed in order to realize maximum profits; assists project management in verifying that projections are accurate.

·        Prepares project projection reports for review by Project Manager/Operations Manager.

·        Tracks project budget.

·        Prepares monthly estimate for owner payment and application for payment.

·        Tracks change orders.

·        Submits all purchase orders, subcontracts, change orders, and correspondence to Project Manager(s) for approval.

 

III.               Performs estimating functions as required.

·        Prepares solicitation lists of subcontractors and suppliers. 

·        Performs quantity survey and initial pricing of estimate.

·        Estimates project costs, presents project budgets to owners and others.

·        Tabulates and evaluates bids.

 

Addition Responsibilities:   Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education: B.S. in Construction, Engineering, or related field or equivalent through experience.

 

Experience Preferred: 1-2 years engineering experience.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Competent knowledge of basic phases of construction projects.

·        Competent knowledge of basic estimating, costing and scheduling knowledge.

·        Satisfactory knowledge of mathematics functions (geometry, basic algebra).

·        Competent computer skills (Excel, Suretrack and Timberline).

·        Satisfactory ability to schedule your own time effectively to accomplish tasks on multiple projects.

·        Satisfactory ability to develop and maintain project schedules and project budgets and to identify changes and discrepancies.

·        Competent ability to perform quantity surveys and reading plans.

·        Effective communication and ability to present information in a clear and understandable manner in both written and verbal form.

·        Satisfactory ability to work with others in a team environment, exercising effective interpersonal skills.

·        Satisfactory ability to accept constructive criticism.

·        Competent ability to perform all work in a timely, professional and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with customers, clients, subcontractors and other third parties.

·        Ability to comply with all company policies, practices and standards of performance.

·        Satisfactory attendance.
